HOLLYWOOD – Danny Kaye has spent less and less time in front of the motion picture cameras in the last few years, having largely been occupied with a weekly TV show and his worldwide tours in behalf of the United Nations Children’s Fund. And now news comes to me that Hollywood may lose him as a performer for some time to come. Danny has been in Nice for the last couple of months starring in “The Madwoman of Chaillot” and cementing a new friendship with the producer, Ely Landau, who is making the picture for Warner Bros.—Seven Arts. Landau has become so impressed with Danny’s talent that he has offered him an opportunity to direct a picture, a project that has long been close to Danny’s heart.
The picture under discussion will be “The Nutcracker Suite,” based on the famous ballet by Tchaikowsky. Landau has already made preliminary arrangements in Moscow for the use of the Bolshoi, Kirov or Leningrad Ballet companies. Danny received a tremendous reception when he attended the Moscow Film Festival four years ago.
In the end, Danny never did direct anything as far as I know. -
