“Comic Kaye Puts Fun in Serious Jobs”

The Milwaukee Sentinel – June 15, 1961

Whether on stage or off, curly-haired, blue-eyed comic Danny Kaye is an artist.

Demonstrated many times before to the millions who have watched the comedian-actor at work, it was again evident Thursday at a press luncheon at the Kaiser Knickerbocker Hotel.

The 20 guests responded with delighted laughter.

TALKS OF USO

Kaye’s artistry showed up as he talked about his flying experiences, the USO, baseball and his work as ambassador-at-large for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

The comic’s favorite topic of conversation is UNICEF. However, he had a few words to say about the USO.

“Remember the USO?” he asked. “A lot of people don’t that’s why I’m going back overseas to do a couple of shows.”

GIVES TWO SHOWS

Kaye is in Milwaukee to promote the Midwest premiere of his picture, “On the Double,” which opened at the Riverside Theater Thursday. He gave two special benefit shows to raise money for the Variety Club of Wisconsin in behalf of the Epilepsy Center at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

On Friday Kaye will give three performances during intermissions at the theater.
